The National Finals Rodeo didn't start in some boardroom or from a marketing meeting. Back in 1959, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association made a decision that would change the sport forever. Instead of scattering rodeo events across the country with no clear champion, they created a single championship event where the best would come together and settle it once and for all. That first National Finals Rodeo took place in Dallas, Texas, and it established the template that still holds today. Ten rounds of competition, the best cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation, all competing for the title and the purse that came with it.

What made the NFR different was its commitment to legitimacy. This wasn't some backyard show or county fair contest. This was serious business where skill and toughness were the only things that mattered.
